In this space we highlight apps and websites that we think might help to make your workday a bit more productive or enjoyable.  Here are this month's suggestions.

MIC
A news website based on the premise that young people deserve a news destination that offers quality coverage tailored to them.

Eyes on Pluto
pluto2Download this NASA app and see what the New Horizons space probe is seeing at the edge of our solar system. Available for PCs & Macs. FREE.

New Horizons
An app that will bring you the images of Pluto as they come in. Available on iOS. FREE

Pushover
Pushover is an app for organizing all messages from all devices in one place by sending push messages to any smartphone and placing messages in one unified inbox. The app lets you send 7,500 messages each month, for a one-off licensing fee of $4.99. Available for iOS, Android, and all desktops.

Zero

Zero is a new email app created to help deal with large quantities of emails. It changes traditional user interactions with the inbox and allows handling of email overload in far less time than any other mobile email client Cloudmagicon the market today. Available for iOS. FREE.

CloudMagic

CloudMagic is an app that helps get work done. It supports up to 5 email accounts and will display an individual inbox for each separate account, allowing a view of all new mail.Available for iOS, Android. FREE.

CamCard

An app that allows users to scan, manage, sync, and exchange business cards using a business card scanner.. Great for people who often meet and greet new clients or other business associates. Available for multiple platforms in multiple languages. FREE.

Percentage Calculator

A simple way for the mathematically challenged to work out any form of percentage.  Available in iOS. FREE.

LastPass

Complex passwords are a good defense against hacking, but impossible to remember. This tool will remember them for you—so you only need to remember one password. FREE.

Ozy

An international online news magazine founded by Carlos Watson, formerly of MSNBC and CNN.

hotelwifitest

For the business traveler, a useful website to read about the efficiency (or not) of wifi in hotels before booking, and also to report on your own experiences.

Fundbox offers business owners a simple way to fix their cash flow by advancing payments for their outstanding invoices. Repayment is spread over 12 weeks.  Transaction fees apply.

Kabbage
A+ rated by the Better Business Bureau, Kabbage helps small businesses get the funding they need to grow with loans from $2,000 to $200,000 over 6 months. Interest fees apply.

Smartling
A Gold Stevie winner in the 2015 Sales & Customer Service Awards, Smartling takes the complexity, cost and time out of the translation process by providing companies with an automated, cloud-based translation management platform and comprehensive translation services.

Happier

A website which includes 10 ways to relieve stress at work, Yoda quotes for very bad snow days, and an app to encourage you to take a few minutes each day to concentrate on yourself. Available for Android, iOS. Free.

Peel

Winner of a Gold Stevie in The 2014 American Business Awards, Peel is a key player in smart home control.  Available for Android. Free.

HeartbeatDigital Health and advertising agency Eleven have created a website that utilizes web cams to monitor the changes in blood flow to a user’s face—imperceptible to the naked eye—that then turns the heartbeat into music.

LogMeIn

An app that allows you to view, share and sync files, and remotely access programs and stream HD video or audio directly to your phone. From $99 a year, but a free trial is available.

Quip

A productivity app designed from the to support teams, Quip allows users to collaborate on documents and spreadsheets through its engaging layout and built-in chat functionality. From $12 a month for business.

Focus@will

The neuroscience based music service that helps you focus and retain information when working, studying, writing,  and reading. Available on Android, iOS. Free.

One of the new ways to send or receive money using an app on your smartphone.  Fees apply for some transactions.

Akimbo Card

The Akimbo Visa Prepaid Debit Card is an alternative to carrying cash, sending checks, or using a bank debit card. It also provides a fast, free, and easy way to send and receive money. Fees apply for some transactions.

Peace Care

The Peace Care mission is to cultivate grass roots global health solutions by creating enduring links between communities of need and entities of resource. Peace Care is helping to tackle some of the world’s biggest health challenges.

An app that takes the pain out of paying for dinner: Pay anyone instantly using money you have in Venmo or link a bank account or debit card in seconds. A free service (although there is a 3% fee on certain credit cards).

Carbon Footprint Calculator powered by Make an Impact

Use this tool to calculate your personal carbon footprint and then compare your results to the local average. You can also pledge to reduce emissions and save money. Some aspects of the calculator are customizable so it can be embedded on websites. 

GreenDrive

Reduce CO2 emissions by sharing your journey. Every year thousands of people drive to events all over the world. Greendrive provides a platform to help put people in touch.  Available for Android, iOS. Free.

Duolingo

Learn a European language for free. An addictive learning app available for iOS, Android. Free.
