「都会の人口が生み出す廃棄物はこれから20年間、凄まじい速さで増えるでしょう。特にインドネシアのような、開発途上国で高速成長している都市は危険です」とシンタは語りました。「劣悪な廃棄物管理システムは、都市の居住区域に衛生・環境・社会問題をもたらします」   「熱帯地域の廃棄物汚染はマラリア・腸チフス・赤痢などの原因になります。2012年、世界銀行の報告によりますと、リサイクルシステムの不在で燃やされてしまったプラスチック廃棄物から発生した温室ガスは、全世界の温室ガス排出量の5%を占めるそうです」   このような問題を解決すべく、ユニリーバ・インドネシア財団は「街のゴミ銀行」プログラムを開発し、廃棄物排出を減らす街コミュニティーに財政支援を行っています。   我々はシンタに、[今年の「企業の社会的責任（CSR）」プログラムでスティービー金賞](http://www.stevieawards.com/pubs/iba/awards/408_2917_24543.cfm)を受賞したことが、財団にはどのような意味だったか聞きました。   「スティービー金賞は、我々がここインドネシアで企業の社会的責任のために遂行している事業に対する国際的な認定と言えます。受賞後、実際にたくさんの変化がありました」とシンタは語りました。「世界中の有名な審査員たちが審査する国際ビジネス大賞は、我々のプログラムが世界的水準を達成しているということの表しだと思います。今はインドネシアだけでしか行われていないというのに、です。スティービー賞のおかげで、「街のゴミ銀行」プログラムは世界中に知られました。これからは他の国でも実施されるといいですね」   ユニリーバ・インドネシア財団は2004年インドネシア・スラバヤでたった20箇所の「街のゴミ銀行」で事業を始めました。スラバヤは当時300万人を超す人口を保有した、インドネシア第2の都市でした。しかし2012年までたったの8年で銀行の数は499個となり、これは実に2000%の成長率。いまやインドネシアの最も賑わう10箇所の都市で、およそ2000万人の人々を対象に、この事業は盛り上がっています。   **自分のため、街のため****** ユニリーバ・インドネシア財団のプログラムでは、それぞれの街コミュニティーが不燃焼ゴミ（プラスチックなど）の収集及びその価値に沿った販売システムを開発できるように手伝います。このお金は「ゴミ銀行」に預けられますが、一定の時間後には現金として引き出せます。このシステムは個人がお金ではなくゴミを預けているということを除けば、一般的な銀行と変わりません。   2012年に収集された278tの廃棄物は1億インドネシアルピー（凡そ26,000米ドル）の利益を生み出しました。これは28,000人以上のゴミ銀行顧客に分けられ、140,000人もの人々に直接な影響を与えました。この利益で、貧困家庭は月3kgのお米が買えるようになったのです。   ゴミ銀行の立てられた地域ではゴミが最大80%減り、健康問題も大分改善されたと言います。   ゴミ銀行事業は2020年までに、インドネシアの廃棄物を半分にするという目標と共に、「環境に優しい」[ユニリーバの持続可能な生活プラン](http://www.unilever.com/sustainable-living-2014/)の実現を目指しています。   2013年、ユニリーバ・インドネシア財団はゴミ銀行の数を700に増やし、これらの業務単位をより拡大するというゴールを決めました。この財団の特別なところは、主なビジネス大賞が地域の街コミュニティーであり、政府・NGO・メディア・財団事務所などはこのコミュニティーの支援に当たるという点です。   「この財団とNGOとの連携によって、コミュニティーらは自分の力でゴミ銀行を設立し、運営する方法を学びました」とシンタは言います。ゴミを拾う人と買う人を繋げ、マーケットアクセスを簡易にしたり、ゴミ銀行がゴミ処理のためのソフトローンを一般銀行で組めるように掛け持ったりして、事業の拡大を試みています」この上、コミュニティーではプラスチックゴミをお洒落な家裁道具として販売したり、生ゴミで肥料を作ったりと、様々なこつを学びました。   2009年、この「街のゴミ銀行」事業はプラスチックゴミの価値を高めたという評価を受け、[スティービーアワーズ・今年の環境責任プログラムを](http://www.stevieawards.com/pubs/iba/awards/408_2624_20221.cfm)受賞しました。このプログラムでゴミ銀行はインドネシア政府からのAdipura市政成果賞に名乗りを上げ、2013年にはインドネシア環境省から「企業の社会的責任・最高遂行事業」として導入されました。   **持続可能な未来を考えるプログラム****** 我々はシンタに、ユニリーバ・インドネシア財団の2014年の最大課題を聞きました。「2014年には、保健・福祉・栄養この三つの部門での持続可能性（Sustainability）を考えるプログラムを組みたいと思っています。環境汚染を減らし、ライフクオリティーを向上させるのです。特にインドネシアの小農たちが対象となります」とシンタは言います。 「スティービー賞をもらえたことで、ユニリーバ・インドネシアの全職員はとても張り切っています」とシンタは締めくくりました。「インドネシア全域の街コミュニティーのためになる、効果的な事業を作り出すことが課題だと思っています」   **シンタ＝カニアワティについて****** シンタ＝カニアワティは1990年にユニリーバ・インドネシアに経営訓練生として合流し、企業世界でのキャリアを始めました。彼女は市場調査・国内外のブランドマーケティング・顧客開発など様々な業務を身につけ、2007年ユニリーバ・インドネシア財団に重役として赴任しました。 2009年から、シンタは[インドネシアビジネスリンク](http://www.ibl.or.id/index.php)の理事会会員として働き、2010年[インドネシアグローバルコンパクトネットワーク](http://www.linkedin.com/company/indonesia-global-compact-network)の事務総長に指名されました。そして2014年現在、[持続可能性を探る国際専門家の会](http://www.sustainabilityprofessionals.org/)の一員です。
