SYSPRO’s ERP Solutions Eased Pandemic Disruptions for Manufacturers and Distributors

Posted by Maggie Gallagher on Wed, Jan 12, 2022 @ 09:30 AM

About SYSPRO

Stevie-winner SYSPRO remains one of the longest-standing privately owned, global vendors of ERP software.  They operate in over 60 countries, across six continents, and have over 500 employees. SYSPRO’s strength lies in its focus on making things possible for manufacturers and distributors through their specialist, industry-built approach to technology that can be deployed on-premise, in the cloud, and accessed from a mobile device.

Due to their industry specialization and industry-built solutions, they have been able to guide customers to overcome the disruptions presented by the pandemic. According to a 2020 SYSPRO research study, 60% of businesses were impacted by supply chain disruptions during the pandemic, 37% of companies were unable to provide the remote work capabilities to employees that were required and only 38% of businesses felt that their business systems were adequate to cope with the disruption.

Businesses came to realize that in order to overcome supply chain disruptions, their business operations need to consider a different approach to ensure supply-chain resiliency. This shift in strategic sourcing and procurement is now being considered as a viable option worldwide.

SYSPRO ERP

SYSPRO ERP can support manufacturers to digitalize by providing the systems and platforms that resolve the biggest areas of impact; remote workforce enablement, implementation and automation of business systems to handle the procurement and sourcing policy changes, distribution and lead time planning; and analytics providing data real-time to support improved decision-making.

Key features of SYSPRO include:

1.MOM: SYSPRO’s Manufacturing Operations Management Solution provides complete manufacturing lifecycle management from planning, scheduling, publishing, collecting, tracking and analyzing to optimize and improve end-to-end manufacturing operations. Benefits for manufacturers include increased productivity and lowers costs by minimizing loss within the business

2.Recall Management: Product Recall is a traceability system that allows manufacturers to perform a full product recall quickly and efficiently by providing instant access to all of the critical information to track a suspect product, throughout the value chain.  It supplies the necessary information to identify, isolate and action the activities that need to occur within the predetermined recall time limit.

3.Supply Chain Portal: The Supply Chain Portal is an interactive web platform that facilitates online transactions between an enterprise and its suppliers. The Supply Chain Portal streamlines collaboration between buyers and suppliers and minimizes document handling – reducing potential fraud. It automates business processes and ensures transparency of supplier transactions.

4.Choice of cloud on prem or hybrid: Whether meeting a strategic IT imperative, providing for centralized control, requiring visibility and manageability across dispersed locations, enabling remote location access or considering aspects such as where your IP should reside, SYSPRO ERP gives manufacturers the choice to deploy either in the cloud, on-premise or both (hybrid).

5.Specialist Industry experience: SYSPRO’s ERP solution is built to deliver last-mile, industry-specific functionality for manufacturers and distributors across a group of selected industries in which we have thorough expertise. By taking advantage of SYSPRO’s industry frameworks for your sector, you can benefit from best practices while minimizing the cost and time involved in your ERP implementation.

6.Specialist Consulting and Value-Added Service: SYSPRO is ideally positioned to provide value-add through specialist consulting services. SYSPRO’s Consulting Services team is uniquely equipped to enable a business to unlock strategic value from their investment in SYSPRO. The team is represented by Project Managers and Consultants of all disciplines, who combined have many years of experience successfully implementing complex ERP projects within a wide range of industries.

How the ERP Helps Customers

SYSPRO’s strength lies in its focus on making things possible for manufacturers and distributors through its specialist, industry-built approach to technology that can be deployed on-premise, in the cloud, and accessed from a mobile device. Working as a trusted advisor and committed to the success of both customers and partners, their goal is to succeed together, creating rewarding, long-standing relationships. SYSPRO’s customer retention rate is 98%, significantly higher than the industry average, with some customers remaining for more than three decades.

Ruprecht, a value-added food solutions company that makes ready-to-eat and ready-to-cook products, provides a good illustration of the impact SYSPRO ERP has on mid-market manufacturing organizations. Over the previous 10 years, the company had heavily invested in product innovation, which paid off with rapid growth. But to fully capitalize on this growth, Ruprecht needed a fully integrated business solution. The manufacturer’s in-house ERP and accounting software were not tightly connected, and it lacked key capabilities such as production scheduling, full inventory visibility, manufacturing standard costing, and ‘what if’ scenarios.

SYSPRO addressed these challenges, saving the company an estimated $1.5 to $2 million a year according to Ruprecht’s CFO. The customer was also able to implement AI, which enabled it to build a predictive model for optimizing the supply chain, prepare for the weather and other disruptions and become a more agile organization — all of which was tightly integrated with SYSPRO ERP.

SYSPRO won the Gold Stevie Award for ERP Solution and the Silver Stevie Award for Communications or PR Campaign of the Year - Technology in The International Business Awards.

40 Million Reasons to Keep Going

Posted by Maggie Gallagher on Wed, Feb 06, 2019 @ 05:31 PM

After raising more than $40 million in January during a series D funding round led by Al Fahim Group, a Berlin, Germany-based, automotive and travel conglomerate, 2018 was going to be a make-or-break year for Blacklane GmbH as it continued its expansion.

Jens Wohltorf, CEO and co-founder of Blacklane, highlighted the high-end chauffeur service’s vision and ambitions, declaring that “this investment accelerates Blacklane’s ability to bring end-to-end peace of mind onto the road and into airports around the world.”

Blacklane GmbH is taking an alternative approach to capital-intensive transportation start-ups, such as Uber and Didi. While those companies target growth and demonstrate scant regard for losses, Blacklane aims to create a highly efficient back-end system for managing rides and customer care. The system is a proven success, winning a 2018 Gold Stevie® Award for Technology of the Year. The system will ultimately allow Blacklane to beat its competitors on utilization rates and, therefore, prices.

blacklane

While its funding levels and recorded losses pale in comparison to larger rivals, frugality and efficiency are of great importance in its domestic German market. By emphasizing these characteristics, Blacklane offers an attractive alternative to investors who are eager to give money in the transport innovation sector but are wary of the all-or-nothing strategies of other start-ups.

With its emphasis on ensuring sustainable growth, investors expected tangible deals and value-adding investments from Blacklane. The company delivered on this while demonstrating its potential. It earned the aforementioned Gold Stevie Award for its back-end technology, as well as a Gold Stevie Award for Transportation Company of the Year and a Bronze Stevie Award for its carbon-offset program in the Corporate Social Responsibility category in April. The company, however, did not simply rest on its laurels. In May, Blacklane announced its integration with the SummitLink booking tool provided by SummitQwest. This put Blacklane at the disposal of the platform’s corporate clients, who even have the option to choose it as a preferred service provider.

The company’s official goal for 2018 was to expand its services to 300 cities worldwide. It achieved this in early September when 32 more cities were added to its roster. According to Blacklane representatives, Limerick, Ireland, became the 300th city the company served. The remaining 31 cities were located in countries all over the globe, including France, Germany, Switzerland, India, Japan, and Malaysia. The careful selection of targeted regions again speaks to the company’s discerning approach, underscoring that Blacklane enters markets suited to its service rather than entering them simply to boost growth rates.

An August announcement swiftly followed wherein Blacklane introduced a “Green Class” to its services. Tesla BEVs became available for booking in 20 cities the company covers, including locations in North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia.

“We welcome battery-electric, chauffeur-quality vehicles from all premium automakers to our fleet,” Wohltorf says. “Supporting business and leisure travelers with green travel options is essential to a healthy planet.”

While unlikely to generate significant extra revenue alone, the availability of a green option is of great importance to the company’s reputation in its domestic market, as well as any other markets that value environmental sustainability. As more people and countries grow concerned about the impact of climate change, a green transition is inevitable. By considering environmental concerns early on, Blacklane puts itself in a prime position to take advantage once that tipping point is reached in any given market.

In November, Blacklane then reached an agreement with the Shangri-La, an Asian luxury hotel chain. The agreement stipulated that members of the hotel chain’s Golden Circle loyalty program would receive incentives, including fare discounts and extra loyalty points for using Blacklane. This news coincided with the announcement that Blacklane opened an office in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Following the significant investment made by the Al Fahim Group in January, Blacklane then announced Emirates Airlines had selected Blacklane to provide its complimentary chauffeur service to first-class and business-class passengers in Bangalore, India; Bologna, Italy; Chennai, India; Delhi, India; Hyderabad, India; Milan, Italy; Mumbai, India; Rome, Italy; Stockholm, Sweden; and Venice, Italy. Both deals seem likely to give a significant boost to the company’s revenue.

In reflection, 2018 was a very successful year for the multiple-Stevie-Award-winning company. The funds raised at the beginning of the year were deployed gradually and strategically, and the company rigorously followed its strategy of sustainable growth. Investors are happy to see the funds allocated to Blacklane are being used to grow revenue and market presence, as well as to bolster the company’s green credentials. It remains to be seen whether Blacklane can manage to reduce its losses—or even to turn a profit—in 2018, let alone gain the upper hand over its larger competitors.

However, by seeking to differentiate itself from and to improve upon their rivals’ business models and by consistently pursuing its strategy of sustainable growth, day-one efficiency, and strategic partnerships, Blacklane certainly created an impressive foundation upon which it can build.

23 Ways to LEAD the Future

Posted by Maggie Gallagher on Tue, May 09, 2017 @ 11:54 AM

When a company launches 23 newly engineered and redesigned e-STUDIO multifunction printers before the annual dealer meeting even kicks off, you'll likely turn a lot of heads.

Such was the case with Toshiba, when they won the Gold Stevie Award for 'Best Sales Meeting of the Year'  in the 2017 Stevie Awards for Sales & Customer Service, in recognition of its 2016 LEAD (Learn Engage Act Deliver) conference.

The LEAD conference included record attendance and stylish new machines that bolstered technology, customization, and training for attendees to try out.

Connect, Integrate, Simplify

LEAD2016_logo_FINAL_V3_2.jpgJoe Contreras, Global Marketing Executive at Toshiba, revealed that the machines represented a value statement that could be summed up in three words: connect, integrate, and simplify.

“The machines don’t just connect to the network, they can connect customers with their businesses and workflows...to become an integral part of a customer’s business, and they can simplify tasks and operations.”

Politics and Party Tricks

Toshiba made sure to pull out all the stops for LEAD. In addition to hosting LEAD at one of the more luxurious properties on the Las Vegas Strip, graffiti artist business guru Erik Wahl was the featured evening keynote speaker to close LEAD’s first day. Toshiba’s second day lineup featured a variety of entertainment, including keynote speakers James Carville and Mary Matalin (who gave the now classic quote “If you have ADHD, are over 30, and like a glass of wine - you probably shouldn’t have a Twitter account”.) Closing-night entertainers, The B-52s, with such hits as “Rock Lobster,” “Party Out of Bounds,” and, of course, “Love Shack.”

Surpassing Expectations

In addition to the large Toshiba booth, their floor space had been doubled to complement the exhibit hall that featured 60 companies from across the industry looking to do business with Toshiba’s dealer community.

"LEAD 2016 was a definitive success from every perspective and surpassed expectations," said Bill Melo, Toshiba America Business Solutions chief marketing executive. "Our new products were met with enthusiasm from every segment of our diverse audience and are generating new business for our resellers, business partners and Toshiba."

Identifying Challenges in the Asian Century: Profile of a Stevie Awards Judge

Posted by Maggie Gallagher on Tue, Jan 12, 2016 @ 02:55 PM

Jim Wagstaff is the Managing Director of Jam Factory Pte. Ltd., a Singapore-based consulting and education technology firm. He is also an active judge for the 2016 Stevie Awards for Sales & Customer Service. In 2015, he participated in judging for the Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards.

The 2016 Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards is currently accepting entries. Find out how to enter here.

We asked Jim about the Stevie Awards judging process, what it is like running a business in Singapore, and for his insight into the contrasts between working in Asia-Pacific and the West.

1512jamfactory.jpgA Strong Endorsement

Jim would most definitely recommend being a Stevie Awards judge to others. As he told us: “I was initially invited to be a judge by someone who is a friend and colleague. The judging process really gives you a sense of the variety and creativity in how companies are approaching business challenges and opportunities in various parts of the world.”

Jim Wagstaff has called Singapore home since 2007. He had been living and working in Shanghai for a number of years when an opportunity to relocate to Singapore with Hewlett-Packard came up. Since 2010, he has been the Managing Director of Jam Factory in Singapore. We asked him about his decision to relocate to Singapore.

There were a number of professional reasons I chose to move to Singapore,” Jim explained. “The job, the breadth of the role, and a promotion … but also, from a personal perspective, I really enjoy the quality of life in Singapore: the year-round warm weather, the food, the location, and the concentration of so many businesses’ regional headquarters in one city.”

The Asian Century

Jim is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in business administration with a research emphasis on cross-cultural leadership and organizational development. We asked him if he could provide us with some insight into differences between the ways companies operate in the Asia-Pacific region that Western businesses should be aware of (and vice versa).

Commented Jim: “As an American who has spent half my career in various cities in Asia, the need for cultural intelligence and cross-cultural leadership skills has been close to my heart for quite some time.”

“As a source of research, study, and practice during my doctoral studies, there are a few important points for anyone looking to do business internationally … but especially in Asia, or moving out from Asia,” continued Jim. “The twenty-first century has often been characterized as the ‘Asian Century.’ Rapid economic growth in East Asia has created opportunities and challenges for multinational corporations, particularly Western multinationals. Western businesses have largely been predisposed to using a “one-size-fits-all” approach to management in their international locations. This strategy can pose a number of particular cultural contradictions for team members in East Asia.”

Working Outside the Cultural Comfort Zone

“My research has uncovered a number of specific areas that can be used as a model for leadership development by local, regional, and global managers,” Jim explained. “The model centers on the knowledge, skills, and behaviors required to align, relate, and communicate more effectively by anyone who needs to work within and outside their own cultural ‘comfort zone’ in a multinational environment–particularly as a local subsidiary of a Western multinational company.”

Solving the Tough Issues

With the start of a new year, we asked Jim what he most looked forward to in the year ahead. “I love working with my clients,” he told us. “Since moving out of HP, I have become an entrepreneur and an active board member in a number of companies. The variety of work and its challenges really keeps me motivated. I am constantly looking for opportunities to help my clients solve their toughest issues … cost, complexity, process, organization, leadership … and to put them in a better position to be successful in their markets.”

About Jim Wagstaff:

Jim Wagstaff is the Co-Founder, Managing Director, and Content Guru of The Jam Factory in Singapore. Jim leads the consulting part of the business, and has a wealth of experience in executive roles in various companies. He loves working with clients to help them identify their learning needs and map their plans so as to positively impact their business. He also leads content development, and has designed many training programs for different customers and industries.

Jim also serves as Managing Director of Renewtrak Asia, a fully managed, white-label renewals platform-as-a-service where the business model is 100% focused on helping clients increase their service contract renewals at no additional operational cost to the client. In addition, Jim is an active board member at Up 2 Speed Pte. Ltd., a Singapore-based organization focused on crafting customized learning and development approaches for multinational and global companies.

Jim was previously Vice-President and General Manager of the StorageWorks Division for Hewlett Packard in Asia Pacific and Japan. His responsibilities while leading this business unit encompassed all aspects of the organization including sales, marketing, finance, operations, public relations and analyst relations, delivering around $800 million in revenue annually.

Prior to HP, Jim was at Dell in Shanghai, where he was General Manager of the server and storage business for China and Hong Kong. Jim was also responsible for Dell's alliance with EMC across Asia Pacific and Japan.

Jim has a BSc, an MBA, and is currently a doctoral researcher in the management school at the University of Liverpool with emphasis on the practical application of cross-cultural leadership approaches in multinational corporations. He is a runner and loves to travel.

LifeLock Wins Grand Stevie® For Organization of the Year in 11th Annual American Business Awards
